York Barbell has been the “Strongest Name in Fitness” for over 80 years.

From the legendary Olympic weightlifting team and the world famous Barbell Club, to revolutionising training product and equipment, York Barbell have been the true pioneers of the fitness industry.

From the early barbell designs to today’s precision plates, innovative grip plates, finely crafted Olympic bars, and commercial strength equipment, York Barbell has consistently set the standard in product styling, performance and value.

Founded in 1932 by Bob Hoffman the brand has been synonymous with the essence of weightlifting since its inception.

Bob, a pioneer in the use of physical conditioning and strength training, was the coach to the USA’s Olympic Weightlifting team from 1948 to 1964.

He was designated the ‘Father of World Weightlifting’ by the Olympic Weightlifting Federation for his part in the history and development of weightlifting as a sport.

As a prolific writer of books and articles, Hoffman promoted the benefits of exercise to the military and the general public. York Barbell went on to develop some of the very first exercise equipment in the industry.
Hoffman introduced a line of supplements in the early 1950’s and even developed the first energy bar in 1966.
Bob also provided advice on youth fitness to Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon and Kennedy.
For over 8 decades we have shaped the fitness industry through product design, education and competition. The brand flexed its muscles through the 1930-70s with its famous lifting teams. The world famous York Barbell Club dominated the Olympic arena with over 40 national championships and numerous Olympic GOLD medalists.

Bob’s official weightlifting club produced a four-decade progression of world and Olympic weightlifting champions such as Bill Good, Joe Miller, Tony Terlazzo, John Terpak, Stan Stanczyk, John Davis, Pete George, and Tommy Kono.

Bob Hoffman guided weightlifting activities during the mid-20th century through his philanthropy and public attention to the sport.

York Barbell corporate offices in York, Pennsylvania (USA) house the official Weightlifting Hall of Fame and Museum.
